The CPC appears to be going on a social media campaign spree, spending more than four times as much on ads for Facebook and Instagram compared to the other political parties combined.
And that’s just in the last 30 days.
Between Aug. 30 and Sept. 28, the CPC spent $158,671 on ads through Meta. The majority of that money went to advertising in Ontario, B.C. and Quebec — regions that recently held byelections or who are undergoing their own provincial elections.
The content of the ads vary, with videos featuring familiar talking points in the party's push to trigger a "carbon tax election."
The party also launched attack ads against NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh, calling him a “sellout.”
It’s apparent the party is preparing for what it hopes will be an early election, with the advertisements all launched the same month CPC Leader Pierre Poilievre tried — twice — to get opposition parties to support a vote of non-confidence against the government.
The Liberals spent about $20,292 on Meta ads last month, with money funneled primarily into Quebec, Manitoba and Ontario. The Liberals are taking a different approach with their advertising, asking the public to respond to surveys plugging programs like pharmacare and affordability.
The Liberals also launched a series of French-language ads promoting Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The NDP spent nearly $14,000 in September while the Greens spent $627.
