Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s decision to resign as Liberal Party leader once a new party captain has been chosen has triggered speculation about those interested in the top job.
Members will elect their new leader on March 9 and have until Jan. 27 to register to take part in the vote. Those interested in mounting a bid have until Jan. 23 to confirm their intention. The entry fee is $350,000.
So far, Energy Minister Jonathan Wilkinson, Innovation Minister François-Philippe Champagne, former B.C. premier Christy Clark, Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon, Transport Minister Anita Anand, Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly and Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc have bowed out from seeking the leadership.
